Attractions on the island of Koh Samui

Koh Samui is the 2nd largest island of Thailand after Phuket. It is almost round in shape and located on the east coast of the Isthmus of Kra, near the town of Surat Thani, and is also one of the most popular tourist destinations in Thailand.

Koh Samui has an area of about 230 km ² (90 sq miles) and a population of 50,000 people aroun in2007. The main island is surrounded by about 60 smaller islands. The central area of Koh Samui ispractically isolated, and through the mountain forest, of which the highest peaks of Mount Khao Pom, with a height of 635m (2100Ft). The island is small areas with only one road that is linked to the outer ring of the 'island.

Documents say that this island was inhabited some 1500 years ago and may have been the first inhabitants of fishermen from Malaysia and southern China. Even today, the island on China's Ming Dynasty maps way back in 1687 is shown

Located onsouth-west coast of the island, Nathon, the ancient capital of Ko Samui. This region is still a major fishing area and an Inter-Island Transportation Center. Samui was sitting in an autonomous community, up to 20 centuries, since that almost no contact with mainland Thailand ever since. There was no way, even as late as early 1970.

Today, Ko Samui is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Thailand with its international airport,Samui Airport. Bangkok Airways has daily flights to and from Samui. There are also flights from Bangkok and other major cities in Southeast Asia.

Originally, the island's economy depended on the survival of agriculture and fisheries. But like 80 years has extended the tourist business quickly and today is the primary source of income on Koh Samui.

Koh Samui's main tourist attractions are its white beaches and hotels and beautiful beach. There are large expansesBeaches them food and shelter. The most popular beaches are Chaweng, Lamai, Maenam, Bophut, Bangrak, Choeng Mon, Ao Tong Takian and Nathon. The beaches of Chaweng and Lamai Maenam are very common and is rather lonely.

Another case seen in Koh Samui is a 12 m (35 ft) high idol of the Buddha, popularly known as "Big Buddha". This idol is placed on the traditional Dragon steps into the temple of Wat Phra Yai. Koh Samui is a series of other important templesas Khunaram Wat, where the embalmed body of Loung Pordaeng Monaco is on the display.

A visit to Papa and Mama rocks south of Lamai beach is very interesting, because these rocks resemble male and female sex organs.

Those who love adventure, to camping in the jungle of the mountain, located in the center of the island. There are many beautiful gardens, waterfalls of Na Muang and rubber trees.

Animal lovers can book a trip for many animals of Koh Samui --Attractions such as the crocodile farm, the charade, the elephant ride, a marine aquarium and a garden of butterflies.

Many visitors to Koh Samui in a one-day trip to the beautiful Ang Thong National Marine Park, the best time to go to Koh Samui in summer during the months of February to April with the wealth of attractions, no wonder the world on this island is all year round?
